What is a Hospital Auxiliary?

An auxiliary is an organization of community volunteers dedicated to making a difference in the lives of others. The Auxiliary fundraises to support needs and initiatives to the hospital, its patients and the community. In our case, the Auxiliary supports the work of Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage and Delnor Hospitals.

Can anyone join the Auxiliary?

Yes. Membership shall be open to all who are interested in the work of Central DuPage and Delnor Hospitals and who complete the requirements for becoming members, as established by the Executive Board. There will be no discrimination because of age, gender, race, creed, color, sexual orientation, disability or national origin, to become a member or officer.

Do you need to be associated with Northwestern Medicine?

No association with Northwestern Medicine is required and you do not need to live in the service area of Central DuPage and Delnor Hospital.

How do you become an active member of the Auxiliary? What are requirements for becoming a member?

First, review and complete the membership application form. Active Membership requirements are quite simple. In addition to completing the membership form, we ask our Active Members to:

  • Participate in at least one committee or subcommittee supporting the Auxiliary’s fundraising events OR volunteer in one of the hospital gift shops or resale shops that support the Auxiliary.
  • Support the Auxiliary financially ($150 or above annually) by attending Auxiliary fundraising events or donate directly.

What Committees can members serve on?

Our members’ talents and interests can be matched to the following committees:

  • Community Outreach
  • Communications
  • Fundraising Events
  • Hospital Events
  • Scholarships
  • Retail Gift Shops
  • Resale Shops
  • Marketing

Are there different levels of membership?

Yes. In addition to the Active Membership level described above, there is Honorary Membership and Life (Charter) Membership.

Honorary Membership. Honorary members are members who support the Auxiliary but are unable to work as Active Members. They are recognized for their outstanding interest in and service to the Auxiliary. They will be invited to all Auxiliary events, including General and Special meetings, will receive periodic notification of Auxiliary activities. Honorary members are permitted to become Active members at any time if they choose.

Life Charter Membership: A person may become a Life (Charter) Member by indicating their desire to do so and by making a monetary contribution of $1,000 to the Auxiliary. Existing Life (Charter) or Honorary members are recognized for their outstanding interest in and service to the Auxiliary. They will be invited to all Auxiliary events including General and Special meetings, will remain as an Honorary member and receive notification to all Auxiliary activities.

How is your Board organized?

The Auxiliary’s Executive Board is comprised of elected officers. The officers of the Auxiliary are: President, President-Elect, Vice Presidents, Recording Secretary and Treasurer. (Bylaws, Article v, Section I).
